9.27.07  "Mad River dog trial ends Not Guilty on all charges Eureka Reporter

Routine Traffic Stop Nets Drug Arrest

On Wednesday, at 5:47 p.m., Officer Justin Braud was on routine patrol when he conducted a traffic stop at Wabash and D Streets on a Dodge pick-up driven by 46 year-old Eureka resident Robert Eugene Danford. Danford was found to be unlicensed and on parole for heroin sales. Danford and his passenger, 34 year-old Kirsten Adelle Ferry, also of Eureka, were detained and searched. Officer Braud located over one ounce of tar heroin in their possession along with a large quantity of cash. Agents from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force responded and took over the investigation. Danford and Ferry were arrested and booked in to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for Possession of Heroin for Sale and Transportation of a Controlled Substance.

“Through Officer Braud’s hard work, he was able to take

over an ounce of tar heroin off the streets,” stated EPD Sergeant

Steve Watson.

9.25.07 Missing Person

Eureka Police Ask for Assistance in Locating Missing Person Eureka Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit is asking for assistance in locating  Vickie Lee Stockhoff, 24, of Eureka. She was reported missing on September 11, and last seen in Eureka on June 29.  Stockhoff is described as a white female, adult, 5’6, 146 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She may be in the company of boyfriend Keith Jones.

Anyone with information on Stockhoff's whereabouts is asked to call Police Services Officer (PSO) Mary Anderson at 441-4300.

9.24.07  The Eureka Police Department has received information from the Humboldt County
Coroner's Office on the name of the victim in Saturday's fatal crash at 4/A Streets.

Gary Lee Stotter, 45, of Eureka, was walking across 4th Street when he was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by 26 year-old Rio Dell resident Alex Garcia Campos.

 

Driver Arrested on Felony DUI After Crash Eureka Police officers responded to a traffic crash last night at 9:22 p.m. at F and Willow Streets. According to witness statements, 23 year-old Matthew Thomas Weber, of Eureka, driving a 1998 Ford Contour, was driving northbound on F Street at a high rate of speed. He swerved in to the wrong lane (southbound on F Street) passing vehicles driving in the northbound lane. A 2005 Mazda 3 driven by Eureka resident Colleen Fay Crotty, 48, stopped in the northbound lane on F Street, was attempting to turn on to Willow, when Weber passed her on the left (southbound) lane of F Street, and the two vehicles collided causing Weber’s vehicle to skid out of control.  Weber’s vehicle continued to travel northbound hitting a parked vehicle that was located 220 feet from the initial crash, in the northbound lane of F Street. The vehicle continued to travel northbound hitting a second parked car that was located on the southbound shoulder of F Street. Weber suffered severe bruising to his shoulder along with cuts. His front seat passenger suffered a collapsed lung, lacerated liver, and a broken pelvis. One female passenger in the back seat suffered a broken leg and had to be extricated from the vehicle. A fourth unknown passenger in the back seat fled from the scene prior the arrival of police.  Weber’s vehicle skidded a total of 384 feet from the first impact to the point of rest. Weber was taken to St. Joseph Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was released from the hospital at 1:30 a.m. at which time he was arrested and taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He was booked on charges of felony DUI.

 

9.22.07 Pedestrian killed in Eureka when hit by a black Mustang at 4th and A St.   The driver of the Mustang was Alex Garcia Campos (26) of Rio Dell.  He is being held on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.  Witnesses stated Campos was speeding and struck the unnamed pedestrian as the person was trying to cross the street at the crosswalk.
